Small Publishing Press Database
About Us
Welcome to the Small Press Database!
We are a collaborative project listing small, independent publishers as a resource for students and faculty at Amherst College. Our belief is that small presses publish inclusive, innovative, and boundary-pushing work, often acting as homes for marginalized writers creating language and communities of their own. Small presses expand the possibilities of literature and therefore what we can do as writers and readers at Amherst. Our goal is to increase access to small presses and their books, fostering engagement with the robust communities of writing attached to them.
We do this by:
- Creating an accessible database of publishers
- Ordering books from small presses to be housed at Frost Library
- Sharing student-written articles and reflections on our blog
- Encouraging engagement with small press publishing on the Amherst College campus through classes and other gatherings
Engaging with small presses in these ways, we believe, opens doors for a more holistic and innovative understanding of the publishing world and how we fit into it.
