Archipelago Books
2000s
Description:
Artistic exchange between cultures is a crucial aspect of global understanding: literature can act as a catalyst to dissolve stereotypes and to reveal a common humanity between people of different nationalities, cultures, and backgrounds. It has never been more important for voices from around the world to be heard in this country. Sadly, less than three percent of new literature published in the United States originates outside the Anglosphere. By publishing diverse and innovative literary translations we are doing what we can to change this lamentable circumstance and to broaden the American literary landscape. Archipelago is always striving to find visionary international writers whom American readers might not otherwise encounter. We hope our translations will increase cross-pollination between readers, writers, thinkers, and educators across borders. Archipelago partners with like-minded organizations both in the United States and abroad – local independent bookstores, community centers, literary and arts organizations, universities, foreign institutions and embassies, and reading series across the country – to host a wide array of literary events, including interviews, discussions, and readings.
